The Convicts Cabin

When the Fall River Road construction began, thirty eight convicts from the

Colorado State Penitenciary at Canon City were used as laborers. They did this

in exchange for reduced sentences, and it was believed that it would have a

positive influence upon the convicts exposing them to the outdoor life.

One and two-room log cabin huts were constructed and used as dwellings.

Some remains of these cabins can still be spotted on the road which leads

up to Fall River Road just West of the Aluuvial Fan.
